Welcome

Lios na nÓg exists to educate children who enjoy the use of Irish in their home environment, and to provide other children with an all-Irish curriculum.

Gaelscoil Lios na nÓg is an Irish language primary school

Gaelscoil Lios na nÓg is a primary school operating through Irish which is fully recognised by the Department of Education & Science. Lios na nÓg was founded in 1996 and has developed smoothly since then under the direction of Áine Nic an tSíthigh, the principal.

A group of local parents founded the school in 1996 to provide all-Irish education for their own children and for those of other parents seeking an Irish language school with excellent educational standards. The initiative was supported by a number of other parents and each year has seen a fresh reception class and the addition of fresh parents and children to the school community. The Department of Education & Science recognised Lios na nÓg in its early stages and has sanctioned the appointment of an extra teacher annually as the school grew. This recognition brings with it the usual Exchequer supports.

The specific aim of the school is the provision of high-quality education through the medium of the Irish language. Lios na nÓg exists to educate children who enjoy the use of Irish in their home environment, and to provide other children with an all-Irish curriculum. Knowledge of the language is provided within its cultural context, and the school draws on the experience of the Department of Education & Science (following the Revised Curriculum) and of Foras Pátrúnachta na Scoileanna Lán Ghaeilge, the umbrella managerial structure for all-Irish schools.

Lios na nÓg operates with close parental involvement in the management and operation of the school as in other Gaelscoileanna. Parents cooperate to support the school, its linguistic and cultural aims, and its financial and overall well being in different ways. Parents who share the aims of the school impart a constructive attitude to their children and co-operate with the school with regard to the promotion of the Irish language and in the school's other dimensions. Parents who do not share these aims are best advised, for their own sake and their children's sake, to look for another school which will meet their required needs

Multi-cultural

Children from many different cultures are welcomed. They are integrated into the life of the school on a gradual basis. Teachers are considerate and patient with these children and they become a central part of the life of the school.
