Polasai Tumoideachais Lios na nÓg

Is í an Ghaeilge príomhtheanga Lios na nÓg toisc gur Gaelscoil is ea í. Cé go múintear Béarla mar ábhar agus mar theanga bheo ón téarma deirneach i Naíonain Mhórá, déantar cúram faoi leith don Ghaeilge toisc go ndéanaimid tréan iarracht coincheap an tumoideachais a chur i bhfeidhm sa scoil. Is é is ciall leis seo nó go ndéantar na páisti a thumadh sa Ghaeilge ó aois naíonra (3bl)  ar aghaidh chun cur ar a gcumas ardleibhéal Gaeilge a fhoghlaim agus sár chaighdeán a bhaint amach.Bíonn orainn a bheith dian faoi labhairt an Bhéarla mar gheall air seo toisc nach féidir le páisti ardleibhéal cumais a shroichint sa dara teanga i.e. an Ghaeilge gan neart deiseanna labhartha Gaeilge a bheith acu i rith an lae scoile.

Cé go mbíonn roinnt bheag páisti liofa i nGaeilge agus iad ag teacht ar scoil, is gnáth nach mbíonn formhór na bpáisti líofa agus bíonn géarghá acu leis an tumadh seo sa Ghaeilge.

Deir na saineolaithe gur gá do pháisti teanga a labhairt le páistí /daoine atá beagáinin níos liofa ná iad féin chun cur lena stór focal lena neolas ar litriú agus ar ghramadach agus araile.

Spreagfar na páistí le Gaeilge ghlan líofa shaibhir a shealbhú sa scoil, ó éisteacht sna ranganna agus taobh amuigh agus i léitheoireacht leabhair Ghaeilge agus ó éisteacht le cainteoiri dúchais a thiocfadh ar cuairt go rialta go dti an scoil chun abhair bhreise a theagasc nó chun labhairt leis na páistí ar ábhair faoi leith m.sh. sláinte, ficheall, damhsa, iascaireacht, ceol, taisteal agus araile. Is é buaicphointe an tiomoideachais nó turas go dtí an Ghaeltacht do Rang a 6

Beidh  gné smachta agus gné duaiseanna i gceist le cur i bhfeidhm an pholasai seo.

Early Immersion Policy

Irish is the language of work and play at all times in Lios na nÓg. English is taught in class from the third term of Senior Infants. Other than during their English lesson, the children use Irish. This system is known as “Tumoideachas” or early immersion.. It has been proven to be a gentle and effective way of introducing young children to the use of a new language. It does not interfere with their English skills. Indeed, research shows that children who are bilingual at a young age find it easier than others to learn further languages when they are older.

We are of course very patient and supportive with Junior Infants as they become familiar with Irish. New parents are pleasantly surprised at their enjoyment and enthusiasm.

It is important that parents support their child’s learning of Irish. Only very few of our parents are fluent speakers. This is not important. What is important is that you encourage your child. Use any Irish words or phrases you may have. The rule that only Irish is to be spoken within the school grounds applies to adults and children alike.

Please ensure to remind your child of this often and to lead by example!
