Promoting positive behaviour

  • Keep the classroom, playground and toilets clean and tidy at all times.
  • Do not interfere with any other child in the playground. Rough play of any type is not allowed.
  • Bullying in any form will not be tolerated whether verbal, physical or otherwise.
  • Always treat property with care.
  • There must be a signed note for the teacher:
  • When a child has been absent
  • If a child has no homework done
  • If a child is not wearing his/her school sweater, T-shirt
  • These rules also apply for school tours and any other occasions that pupils represent the school

The following strategies may be used to show disapproval of unacceptable behaviour:

  • Reasoning with the pupil
  • Reprimand (including advice on how to improve)
  • Temporary separation from peers friends or others,
  • Loss of privileges
  • Detention during a break or after school hours
  • Prescribing additional work
  • Referral to Principal
  • Communication with parents – guardians
  • Suspension (temporary)

Teachers shall keep a written record of all instances of serious misbehaviour as well as a record of improvements in the behaviour of disruptive pupils. Before resorting to serious sanctions e.g. suspension, the normal channels of communications between school and parents will be utilised. Parents will be involved at an early stage, rather than as a last resort.
